Here are the techniques I use to invite visitors to my blog using Twitter. My strategy is to get people who are interested in me as a brand to the site. So I focus on quality rather than quantity.
Here are the steps I followed.
The first thing I did was design my twitter page. I simply used one with megan fox looking smoking hot from a free site. The most important thing is to NOT have the basic one. This let's people know that I'm a real person and that I'm into sexy women. Both Really great things. With a custom background, it's also important to pay attention to readability. Some backgrounds make it actually harder to read the posts. I don't go directly through the twitter site myself anymore, but the pickuppodcast one is actually really hard to read. I can't explain why but all the white confuses my eyes.
The next step is to decide how I'm going to use Twitter. I can either promote my blog or my ebook, but not both really. So I am focused on my blog. Because I am working on developing a Tribe. I only need 1000 people in my tribe to support my business model. So I have a website set up that automatically posts my new articles to twitter. But it only checks once a day or something. So once a day people get a twitter with a link to my blog and the new article title. This dovetails with my other post about article titles. To do this I use http://www.tweetlater.com/ .
A lot of people keyword search twitter. every post is public so it's good to use words that are useful and organically searched in your twits.
I started following a TON of people on Twitter. I searched dating coach and followed all of them. To see what they do right and wrong. This was super important. I realized how annoying almost every dating coach is on Twitter. First of all there are 1000s. And the tend to post an ad for business ever 20-60 minutes. Nobody wants Twitter to be a commercial. So why would you follow someone who is so annoying? Marketing guys are even worse. They are all assholes.
Every commercial Twitter user has an automatic message they send out when someone follows them. Every single marketing guy sends out an obvious message "Thanks for following me on Twitter, want to make 7000dollars a month click this link." The link takes you to a site where they want to capture your email and get you to sign up for crap.
So nobody likes these guys.
So what do I do? I don't advertise in my initial message. I have a rotating set of 5-6 welcome messages. Basically I sat down and wrote down a couple of jokes. If you follow me you get a message about why people don't trust cats or why I love napping. These seem more personal and real. Nobody wants to follow a Twitter machine.
Another type of annoying Twitter user is the the self-obsessed girl. Demi Moore is a great example of this. Every post is like I just peed or I just went shopping and spent WAYyy too much money. Nobody wants to know every thing you do every 10 minutes. I accidentally followed a normal girl who Tweets like every 10 minutes. God damn I had to unfollow her annoying ass.
So don't do that either. I twit 4-5 times a day, somedays only once. And I put in funny things. Like when I saw a guy who looked like a bank worker blasting Dillinja. (If you don't know it was some dirty ass drum n bass)
The next phase is to use twitpic. You can Tweet pictures. Now this is money in the bank. Now that I've started putting my face out there, I'm going to Tweet more pics of my adventures.
Ok. These are all good behaviours, but how do i GET followers amazing LondonPaladin. Good question. Got to http://www.flashtweet.com/ . Using this site, I just follow people that are following other successful dating coaches. About 60% of the people I follow, follow me back.
Then I wait a few days and delete the people that aren't following me back. Remember, most dating coaches and marketing people suck on twitter. So all I have to be is a little bit interesting. I reply to other peoples tweets a lot. And I retweet when it's funny. I don't think I've mentioned everything I do, but these are some really good things I do. I get a lot of twitter love and it is driving traffic to my blog.
I am not doing amazing at numbers, but my quality is good so far. Right now I have 383 followers. I had 10 a week ago. Most of you guys have bigger business models than me, so you can take these tips and expand.
oh finally. download TweetDeck. It's badass. It let's you control twitter in a really good way. It's how I reply to all my friends etc.
